Wellbeing

The wellbeing of our children and staff alike is an important consideration in order to promote our vision of happy, active, healthy, inspired learners. Adopting a whole school approach, we are encouraging our school community to make their mental wellbeing a priority, striving to normalise conversations about wellbeing, reinforcing the idea that it is ok to not be ok. Encapsulating many of the PATHS principles, we aim to create a culture of openness and acceptance.

To address wellbeing across our school, surveys have been undertaken to discover areas of concern, small group interventions are taking place, a lunchtime art club has been established along with a focus on staff wellbeing.

Listed below are websites which focus on different areas of mental wellbeing including anxiety, stress management and support for separating families.

Lacey our Therapy Dog

Introducing the lovely Lacey, our therapy dog at Poringland Primary School! As a special part of our nurture and wellbeing program, our students get to spend quality time with Lacey every Friday. They have the unique opportunity to read to her, providing a private and cosy setting away from peers or any audience. This special time with Lacey is designed to help boost the children’s confidence and enjoyment in reading. We believe that reading with Lacey not only promotes literacy skills but also creates a warm and supportive environment for our students to flourish.

Signposting

At Poringland, we are committed to providing clear signposting for our staff, pupils, and parents/carers. We want everyone to know about the support and services available to them and how to access these resources. Throughout the school, on noticeboards, in staff rooms, and even in places like the toilets, we will share important information. Additionally, through our communication channels such as newsletters and websites, we will provide details about local and national support services and events. Our goal is to ensure that both pupils and staff understand what help is available, who it is aimed at, how to access it, why they should access it, and what is likely to happen next. It’s all about making sure everyone in our school community feels supported and knows where to turn when they need help.
